75th Anniversary of the German Rhododendron Society
Hello from Germany!
In 2010 the German Rhododendron Society will celebrate its 75th anniversary. For this special occasion an interesting programme has been arranged which is open also for rhododendron fellows from rhododendron societies throughout the world.
A highlight will be the International Rhododendron Symposium held from May 18-20, 2010, in Bremen, the birthplace of the German Rhododendron Society. Renowned speakers from North-America, Australia & New Zealand as well as from Europe including Scotland will give lectures on topics ranging from native rhododendron habitats to modern collections.
During our regular annual meeting (May 20-23, 2010) excursions to a broad range of rhododendron parks and nurseries will provide an excellent overview of Germany's centre of rhododendron production and collections in the North-West. The programme includes a visit to the internationally well-known “RHODO” in Westerstede. A whole day in Bremen's famous Botanic Garden & Rhododendron-Park (supposedly the world's 2nd largest rhododendron collection) provides the opportunity to experience the full range of rhododendron diversity in one place: Vireyas and Indian Azaleas in modern greenhouses (3.000 m2), rhododendron species and alpine rhododendrons, deciduous and Japanese Azaleas and more than 1,000 evergreen hybrids in the surrounding park (46 hectars).
The post-excursion (May 24-25, 2010) includes trips to the Hachmann Nursery, the Hobbie Rhododendron Park and historic rhododendron gardens. All excursions will be bilingual (German & English), the International Rhododendron Symposium will be held in English.
The registration will start in mid October 2009. Details for the registration process will be provided on www.rhodo.org/2010. On this website you will find also more details about the programme and the parks, nurseries and collections which will be visited.
It would be wonderful to welcome in May next year some rhododendron enthusiasts from Scotland!! Please be our guests and enjoy a fascinating week full of rhododendrons in May 2010!
As the Secretary of the German Rhododendron Society I will act as the main liaison for all international rhododendron societies. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely yours
